Geeta Kapoor is an Indian Choreographer, Dancer & Television Personality who is well-known for her work in the Bollywood film industry.She is one of the judges for the Indian reality dance talent show Dance India Dance, Super Dancer, India Ke Mast kalandar and India’s best dancer.
She took interest in dancing since her childhood. She used to do a dance in her family functions and also participates in the dance contest.
Geeta Kapur hails from the Hindu family. She is very close to her mother and in her family, she loves her father the most.
In an interview, she shared that, many times she was proposed by an actor Sajid Khan as she was close to her sister Farah Khan but she rejected the offers every time.
Geeta Kapoor started her career when she joined the groupe of notable Bollywood choreographer Farah Khan.
Geeta always wanted to be a dancer and joined Farah Khan‘s group at the age of 15. Later, she assisted Farah in superhit films, such as- ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai,’ ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho,’ ‘Main Hoon Na’ and ‘Om Shanti Om.’
At the age of 15, Geeta joined Farah Khan‘s group for clearing her dancing concepts. After that, she professionally started choreography and opened her own dance academy.Apart from choreography and dancing, she also did modeling for a while in her younger days.
She led choreography in many Bollywood films like Fiza (in 2000), Asoka (in 2001), Saathiya (in 2002), Heyy Babyy (in 2007), Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic (in 2008), Aladin (in 2009), Tees Maar Khan’s Sheila Ki Jawani’ (in 2010), Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya (in 2011), and Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi (in 2012). She has also choreographed award ceremonies and concerts like Temptation Reloaded, and has also choreographed the opening ceremony of Pepsi IPL 2013.
In the year 2009, she appeared on the season 2 of Dance India Dance, along with choreographers Terrence Lewis and Remo D’Souza as judges and mentors. They all well trained 18 contestants in dance forms like ballet, acrobatics, mid-air dancing, contemporary, Bollywood and hip-hop.Currently she is judging India’s Best Dancer, a dance reality show on Sony TV along with Malaika Arora and Terence Lewis.
She appeared in songs like “Gori Gori” in ‘Main Hoon Na’ (2004) and in “Tujhe Yaad Na Meri Aaye” in ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ (1998).
She also appeared as a backstage dancer in the movies like‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’, ‘Main Hoon Na’, ‘Nayak’,and ‘Om Shanti Om’.
Geeta Kapoor compared Farah Khan as her mentor and second mother.
When she turned 36, she shifted her focus to the small screen and judged dance reality shows like ‘Dance India Dance,’ ‘DID L’il Masters,’ ‘DID Doubles’ and ‘Dance Ke Superkids.’
She has judged more than 14 dance reality shows.
In ‘Dance India Dance’ (Season 2), she trained a group ‘Geeta ki Gang’.
Choreographer Feroz Khan,who was the first person who called her Geeta “Maa” when she was doing her modelling. She used to behave Feroz like a kid, after which he starting calling her mother.
Amitabh Bachchan,Salman Khan, Gerard Butler,Madhuri Dixit,Priyanka Chopra and Vidya Balan are her favourite actors.
Geeta Kapur is a huge fan of fictional character Nancy Drew.
In an interview, she revealed that before becoming a dance choreographer, she wanted to become an air hostess.
